New Gizmo

Post by Speed_Beak » Tue Nov 11, 2014 11:18 pm

Stopped by West Marine today to pick up my birthday gift, a 450w Xtreme bilge heater :D

Wanted to pick up some pink anti-freeze, but they were out. However I did find a neat gizmo to get the pink stuff into the cooling sys.

I was gonna make something, but this was just too convenient.

After getting the engs up to temp, I popped off the circulating water pump hose and heat exchanger outlet hose to drain the majority of the water. Re-connected and started engs with the new gizmo hooked up. Sucked in 5 gallons in abt 30 secs at idle. At abt the 20 secs mark I started with the eng fogger, then hit it hard and killed the eng just as the last bit of anti-freeze ran out. Walla. Done..

Bring on the cold temps!!

Last night was kind of a bust in regards to bilge temps. I put the outdoor part of a indoor/outdoor digital thermometer (records highs and lows) in the bilge, closed the compartment and taped the vents. Low temp here last night was abt 35 degs. Low temp in bilge was 67 degs. Those big blocks really hold the heat..

That's a really nice surprise :)

That tank looks like it makes winterizing a little too easy! You really aren't screwing around between that and your bilge heater.

Last winter, I spent a number of late nights firing up the kerosene heater making sure my baby didn't get too cold.
I'll be sleeping good this winter.
